Bonny Finima Road Expansion

Rivers, Nigeria

23 Months

100% Completed
The Bonny-Finima Road serves as a vital link between the Finima community and the national road network through the Bonny-Bodo Road. In July 2024, the contract for this critical infrastructure project was awarded to M-P Infrastructure Limited, marking a significant step toward enhancing connectivity in the region.Situated on Bonny Island, approximately 56 km from Port Harcourt in Rivers State, Nigeria, the proposed road spans 1.55 km, running from Buoye-Omosu Roundabout to the former Citibank building in Finima. The current 5-meter-wide single carriageway will be expanded to a 7.5-meter-wide single carriageway and will include a pedestrian walkway on one side.
Expansion work will take place on the right-hand side of the road, from Buoye-Omosu Roundabout to the old Citibank building. The project scope also includes the construction of a new diversion or alternative road to facilitate smooth traffic flow during and after construction. All associated infrastructure such as culverts, drainage systems, and kerbs will be upgraded to match the road’s new design, ensuring durability and improved road safety. The entire stretch of the road will be illuminated to enhance visibility and security, particularly at night.
Objective
The primary goal of the project is to enhance and modernize the road infrastructure, significantly improving health, safety, and environmental (HSE) conditions while reducing the risk of accidents in the host community.
The upgraded Bonny-Finima Road will:
- Improve transportation efficiency, providing seamless access between Finima and the rest of the country via the Bonny-Bodo Road.
- Facilitate economic growth by enabling increased commercial activities, tourism, and investment opportunities.
- Support growing industrial and residential developments, particularly with the completion of the Bonny-Bodo Road and Train 7 construction activities.
- Enhance emergency response capabilities, ensuring quicker access to essential services.
- Boost commercial activity on the island, supporting local businesses and increasing economic opportunities.
Additionally, the project has created employment opportunities for over 100 direct and indirect laborers, contributing significantly to the local economy and workforce development.
